The Library’s collections are fundamental to the University’s success in learning, teaching and research. Library Services (LS), in close collaboration with academic staff, must select and manage the print and electronic collections, and promote cooperation with and access to other collections, to help the University achieve its aims.
Through collection development, Library Services aims to support the work of the University by continuing to add to its collections and by providing access to information resources held or hosted elsewhere. Through collection management Library Services aims to make its resources available in the most appropriate and cost-effective way.
Collection Development and Management Policy - defines the way that LS manages all aspects of the collection from selection and access to relegation and disposal.
Retention and Disposal Criteria (working document) (PDF, 34KB) - in addition to the Collection Development and Management Policy, guidelines have been drawn up with Schools to aid collection management decisions.
Consultation Lists - items that being proposed for relegation to store or disposal are put up for consultation prior to work being carried out.
Donations - advice for anyone wishing to donate material to LS.
UK Research Reserve - LS is working with other Universities and the British Library to ensure that important research materials are protected and that the reputation of our universities remains high.
