Often you will need to begin by  by searching other library catalogues

COPAC is a combined catalogue of  22 of the largest University research libraries in the UK and Ireland, plus the British Library

Cornucopia is a database  of more than 6000 collections in  museums, galleries, archives and libraries.

Membership and access schemes

The British Library
The BL will  issue a pass to allow you to visit the reading rooms in the St Pancras Library in London, or at Boston Spa in Yorkshire.

The SCONUL Access Scheme
This is a borrowing scheme aimed at everyone in Higher Education, but at part–time, distance learning and placement students in particular.  It is the best option if you need to borrow books from another HEI.
